The Back Story
I’ve been playing fantasy sports since 1994. As a long-time commissioner of many fantasy sports leagues, I’ve been presented with the challenge of generating draft orders that aren’t always left to pure luck of the draw.
Maybe you’re perfectly fine with selecting a draft order where every team has an equal shot at the first pick. That’s good for standard redraft leagues where rosters do not carry over from year to year. This tool can do just that for you, too.
But sometimes leagues want to implement a lottery system with weighted results that favor teams that had worse records from the previous season and give long-shot odds to the better teams. That’s what this tool specializes in.
How it all works
Imagine a machine in which one lottery ball is placed for every team in your league. And one ball is drawn at random to determine your league’s draft order until all balls have been selected. This is the way standard draft orders are determined.
But what if you wanted to add weighted results? In other words, what if you wanted some teams to have a better chance to have their names drawn for the first overall pick than others? Not for nefarious purposes, but for fairness sake.
That’s where this generator comes in. You get control over your draft settings. You can add more lottery balls to the machine for some teams and fewer for others to skew the results.
And why would you want to do this? Well, let’s say you’re running a keeper or dynasty league and you want to give the teams that finished the worst the best chance at a top pick. This will help you determine that.
